Many things have happened this year. Obviously, our children are older and new ones are coming into the picture, whether they are permanent residents or just in transition to a more stable family environment. At the beginning of November 2012 the Boona-Baana Center moved to another location. This time we are in firmer ground because it is our very permanent Center. Our Center is now located in Mbweni Village, that is, about 28 km from city centre Dar-es-Salaam on the way to Bagamayo (Straight on new Bagamoyo Road passing Tegeta and Boko for those who have an idea of Dar-es-Salaam roads). We have built basic accommodation for our children and Housemother and house help. There is a lot of work still to be done to the construction itself but at least we got a roof over our heads. The situation called for a rapid response to the circumstances as the owner of the house in our previous domicile sold the house without letting us know and we had very little time to raise funding and less time for the actual planning and construction of the actual building. We had a few good hearted people who donated towards the construction and because of that we wre able to move on time to our new Center. Our children are getting the hang of it and despite the challenges of basic necessities like water or electricity they are doing just fine. For our children who are in secondary school, their school bus do the pick up and drop off all the way to the Village of Mbweni, which is walking distance from the new Boona-Baana. The environment: The Mbweni Village is quiet and breezy. Our plot of land is big and we are making use of it by growing vegetables and we are planning to raise chickens in the near future. Holidays: The months of December, April and August are holidays for most schools in Tanzania, prospect volunteers are welcome to come and if you happen to visit during these months it really help us a lot. We have new children coming from around the village and there is a need for activities to be organized with those children who for one reason or another do not attend school. We wish every one a great end of the year holidays. Again, we remind you that we are still very much around and we depend on help and donations from private individuals like you. For donors in the United States you can donate through our new sister organization www.newdayafrica.org

Welcome on the Boona Baana websiteThe Boona-Baana Center for Children’s Rights is a small, grass-roots organization located in Dar es Salaam Tanzania. Our aim is to create a series of local, sustainable projects which will assist vulnerable children. One of our biggest projects is "The Green Door Home", an orphanage based in Dar es Salaam Tanzania. |
