Welcome on the Boona Baana website

The Boona-Baana Center for Children’s Rights is a small, grass-roots organization located in Dar es Salaam Tanzania. Our aim is to create a series of local, sustainable projects which will assist vulnerable children.

The live and love in the Green door home

With every passing season there, too, are changes at our Green Door Home. This year we have been fortunate to have two of our residents be adopted. Earlier this year, Saida moved to U.S.A. to live with extended family and become the oldest of three daughters in her new household. Malinga recently headed to Canada to become the middle child with his new family. We wish them lots of love and success with their new families.

Congratulations to our oldest boys who have completed primary school. Linus was very successful on his exams and will be attending East Africa International High School. Jackson has moved out of the Green Door Home to return to live with extended family. As we say goodbye to some of the children that we've come to love over the years, last month we welcomed 4 years old Shabani. He is now the youngest boy in the household, but has six big brothers to help him get settled in. We have already found a family interested in adopting him, but until we can locate his biological mother we cannot proceed with the adoption.

Fundraising efforts have been varied and have taken a variety of forms this year, including silent auctions, book drives, greeting card sales, and community events. Again a heartfelt THANK YOU to all of our volunteers and donors – not only do you enrich the lives of our Green Door Home residents, but our work could not be sustained without your support.
